Singing the praises of Raider101

A while back Rohan, from Blessing of Kings, started the Raider101 Wiki. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here but I’ve found it extremely helpful to me when I’m playing an alt.. or when trying to help a guildie who plays a class I don’t.

I wrote most of the Affliction Warlock wiki and will update (and simplify) it somewhat after patch 3.1 is released. But this is a huge and fantastic resource.

Originally Rohan wrote:

The important part is to keep things simple. The intended audience is not the people who can do 3000 DPS and are trying for 3500. The intended audience are the people struggling at 1000 DPS. After they master the basics, they can go to Elitist Jerks and delve into the deep theorycraft.

The resource has grown to also include pages for healers and tanks. Go, have a look and if you see something that needs an update, add a comment or update it.

At the very least, keep this in mind and share it around. It’s a fantastic resource.

  1. Nice! I didn’t know about this resource but I’m off straight away to post it on my guild’s website. We’re dual speccing healers for Ulduar as we have too many, so this is a great resource to send them to to get them started learning about their inner DPSer. =) thanks!

  2. Glad to see you’re keeping it up, Nibuca. I wrote quite a bit of the original content, a while ago (before switching to my alt druid…guild needed a tank). It’s a great resource.

  3. I read through the affliction warlock page and found that I’m doing pretty much everything ok. I had a few questions, hopefully here is a good place to ask them.

I read that I only need 386 hit since I spec’ed into suppression. But I’m wondering how much DPS I’ll be losing when I miss with immolate and shadowbolt. Is it worth it to get hit capped and forgo suppression?

You mentioned that I should whip out an infernal when a boss is at 30%, should this be done each time or only when your existing pet is dead? Last time I checked his DPS was abysmal.

I did the quests and got myself the ritual of doom but I’m wondering how much trouble he is. From what I can tell he needs to be enslaved every 5 minutes and also has diminishing returns on the enslaving. I’ve read that you can get around the diminishing returns by banishing him between enslaves but I figure this would seriously affect the DPS.

I’ll definitely need to get the Dottimer add-on, I’ve read in multiple places that this is essential to the affliction lock. I’m a bit of a purist and like to play the game as designed but my guild already requires Omen and DBM so one more add-on might move me up a few spots on the damage meter.

I agree, it’s a great resource! I really like it because of its simplicity. I’m glad you found it useful.

OOO.. ok.. lots to say here.. I spun your comment out into a full blown blog post. Let me know if you still have unanswered questions.

    Thanks for the tag 🙂

  5. Yes, it’s totally a wiki. That said, I know Rohan has locked some of the topics. If MM Hunter is locked, LMK and I’ll contact Rohan and see if it can get unlocked.
