Dungeon Finder Sneaky Tips

df_greeneyeDungeon Finder wins most favorite update of 3.3.

  • If you join a dungeon via the Dungeon Finder and click on the green eyeball (located on/near your minimap) you’ll be offered the choice to teleport out of the instance (back to where you were when you started). (repair, buy reagents, etc) Once there, you can click on the green eyeball to teleport back into the dungeon.
  • If you have a full group who wants to do a specific 5-man (ie one of the new ones) you can group together and then use the Dungeon Finder to queue up for just that instance. This allows you to teleport straight there (and out).
  • Frozen Orbs are nearly worthless. If it’s going to bother you to “lose to a need-ninja” then announce that everyone should “Need on the frozen orb” early in the run/before looting.
  • If something is an upgrade, even for your offset, Need on it. Otherwise there’s a high chance it’ll be DEd
  • Tanks are in short supply.. and tank Divas abound. Grin and bear it.
  • Your queue will pop faster if you’re grouped with a tank.
  • If you queue as tank/dps or heal/dps you will never get to dps.

Achievements since 3.3 dropped:
Lilac: Northrend Dungeon Hero, Champion of the Frozen Wastes, Heroic: The Pit of Saron, Don’t Look Up, Looking For More, Heroic: The Forge of Souls, The Halls of Reflection, The Pit of Saron, The Forge of Souls, She Deep Breaths More (10 player)

Tatia: Northrend Dungeonmaster, Looking For More, Trial of the Champion, The Oculus, Heroic: Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom, Heroic: Trial of the Champion, Heroic: The Oculus, (and a whole bunch of Ulduar Hard Modes when I got invited to heal for a Ulduar run by Adrenaline)

Footnote: A lot of sites are reporting that tools like Recount don’t work cross-server. So you will only see the DPS of people who stay withing 5-10 yards of you. This may explain the plethora of “OMG THAT ROGUE IS DOING 900 DPS” Or not. Dunno.

And, for a similar reason, you can’t whisper people x-server.

  1. Not sure what it is about the new LFG, but when on my DK tank (4pT9), I’ve always gotten competent healers, and the runs went very well. Not to mention groups forming in about 10 seconds or less.

Not so much on the warlock. Gear level’s the same, but half the time a tank will be ungemmed, or not know their class, etc. I think because of the ratio of tanks to healers/dps in raids these days, there’s a shortage of tanks running heroics.

Icecrown Citadel 10 was interesting (ended up seeing it from the tanking perspective, surprisingly) – Marrowgar is a tank/healer gear check, as well as a situational awareness check. Took us a while to get the dance down. After that, however, it gets easier – and the gunship battle is one of the most fun encounters I’ve ever seen. Looking forward to hearing your experiences ^_^

  2. Don’t forget the Healer Princesses. Example like the one that didn’t heal because they … ummm… had full mana and even a food buff. Oh well. Good luck to everyone. It is actually a fun time to PuG now.

  3. Loving the dungeon finder! My casual guild seldom could get a group of 5 for heroics together, so I had to resort to spamming the various server channels.

What I am still trying to get to work is converting a (good) random heroic pug into a raid group to complete the heroic daily (which has been [Patchwerk must die!] all week). If each of us added 1 player from local server, we’d be gtg!

Well, 15 more totally random pugs for my pug (pet).

  4. I don’t think I’ve run into a healer prima donna yet, which is nice, since they were prevalent in EQ1 back in the day (the last time I pugged on a regular basis). The tanks, though, oy.

And so few people seem to be aware of the Recount issues, even when logic should dictate to them that they’re not doing more than 50 percent of the damage of the group while wearing greens and quest blues.
