Humming along documenting all the new spiffy things in the project deployed live last week. I think I’m going to be presenting it to a larger group next week. Kinda stoked about that. I kind of like presenting.
2. Home
As of today I no longer own a house. I’m ok with that. I find it stunningly appropriate that our closing date is Friday the 13th.
Catching up. On Monday I emailed Jimmy to ask when our closing date would be. He replied that it would be Friday.. but we could ask the buyer to give us until Sunday 6pm to move out. Whoa! Stop the presses. I was under the impression that we’d have 21 days after closing to move out.. you know.. since the whole “will it or won’t it sell” thing will be up-in-the-air until the MOMENT the papers are signed. Yeah.. turns out I was wrong. When closing happens the buyer now owns the house.. my head kind of skipped that so I hadn’t really considered how we’d get moved out.. or where we’d move to.
Monday I panic’d and started madly packing boxes. Tuesday I panic’d and packed even more boxes. Tuesday afternoon we talked to the buyer’s realtor and eventually worked it out with the buyer so that we can move out by the 27th. My panic is now less.
Before I start getting comments about how it’s not “not legal” and they “have to give you 30 days notice” remember that this is the sale of my house.. not a rental. Sure, if it was a rental they’d have to give notice.. but in a sale.. once they own the property I’m not supposed to live in it anymore. So take this as a future lesson.. if you ever sell a house, move out before the closing date.. or add a clause to the sale contract that you will do a 14-21 day rent-back from the buyer for $XXX so that you have time to move out.
So ok. A very generous friend offered to let us move in with him and we’re taking him up on that offer. I’m not sure for how long.. but probably for at least 3 months. The biggest drawback is that his house is in Santa Rosa.. which is quite a ways away from San Francisco.. where I work. I can be ok with a longer commute for a while. We’ll see about it longer term.
So ok, moving. This Sunday 4/15 we’ll empty the garage and move everything we can into storage. Then next weekend (4/21-22) we’ll move our living necessaries up to Santa Rosa(bed, clothes, etc) and (ideally) be out of the house so we can clean it top to bottom well ahead of our deadline.
I’ve already started cancelling services or updating their onfile address.
Oh yeah.. I am totally buying my Ruby Slippers.
3. Health
On Sunday/Monday I started the CrazyStupid Diet.. and then the world went to hell. After carefully stressfully considering it I decided to stop.. and to do it after we finish moving. I just didn’t see how I was going to be able to manage a special menu when my kitchen may be packed up to move. So ok.. wait a month and I’ll try again.

Includes the guy who did “The bitter truth” but also adds more recent studies. Very persuasive.
Disclosure: I work for CBS. It’s pretty cool to be able to find stuff like this while at work.. and actually NOT be considered goofing off.
4. SCA/Projects
On Saturday/Sunday I finally finished sewing the tunics for Bob and Fearghus for Gaston Phebus. Bob’s came out great.. Fearghus’ is a little bit short. After I’d put together Fearghus’ I ended up adding 4 more inches to the bottom of the pattern when I cut out Bob’s. I wish I’d known to do that on F’s. So anyway, I finished the tunic and then he tried it on.. and we figured out it’s too short. I don’t have enough leftover material to add the same color to the bottom.. so after thinking about it for a few days, I’m adding a different color to the bottom. As always, pictures will be posted when it’s done (hopefully this weekend).
Because we’re no longer in a panic about moving we’ve decided we will be day-tripping Gaston Phebus.
On Monday, in a panic, I packed all of my SCA books into boxes for transport into storage. I have 6 boxes of just my SCA books. On Tuesday, after we found out that we could do a less hectic move I opened those boxes and pulled out the books I think I’ll want to consult over the next few months for my Kentish projects. I’d like to try out a new (less-tentish) jacket pattern with some lovely herringbone twill wool I’ve had set aside for a while.. but that’s dependent on how our move goes.
