1. Work/Programming
I’m almost caught up on my milestones for this project. If I can get DataBase connectivity into the project by EOD then I’ll be golden. Next Friday is the deadline. Cross your fingers for me. That said, I am a little bit behind on my test cases for the last two functions. I think I’ll make those a priority right after DB connectivity.
Just an FYI in case anyone’s interested, my company has job openings. I recommend you check them out. CBSI job openings. Click on “CBSi US Jobs” and then “Advanced Search”.
If you see a job you’d like to apply for, I’d appreciate if you’d contact me. If I submit your resume, and you get hired I could get a $1k bonus.
That said, if you’re not comfortable with that.. go for it.. apply anyway. Times are tough and I hereby relieve you of any lingering guilt you might feel for applying without contacting me.
2. Home
Yesterday I received an automated call from BofA(the bastards). They have (again) informed me that they’ have everything they need and are processing out paperwork. Wow… good thing they called us.. you know after 6 freaking months. Too bad this is the second time I’ve received the same call. Bastards. BofA is totally going on my list of companies I’ll never willingly deal with.
AT&T is also on this list. That said, I currently have an account with them. A long while ago AT&T cell screwed me to the point where I added them to the list and stopped dealing with them. Time passed. When we moved into this house we were using SBC for our phone (and I think DSL) service. AT&T acquired SBC. Not wanting to cause a fuss I just went with it and kind of grimace every time I see the bill. ANYWAY, yesterday afternoon an AT&T salesperson stopped by to chat me up about our account. It turns out they’ve just laid fiber optics in our neighborhood and we had the opportunity to upgrade our Internet service to this new (faster better) connection.
So Ok.. I’m already dealing with the devil.. and faster Internet is good….
Well as any good salesperson would they guy ended up talking about “packages” and combining for greater savings… We have been using DirectTV for our TV. AT&T came up with a Package that includes our local/long distance phone, Internet and TV for the same price as we’re currently paying… but the Internet will be 11x faster.. and we will have ALL the cable channels. He did hint about combining our cell phones into the package.. but I balked at that.
So AT&T mobile is still evil and of the devil… but at the moment the rest of that mega-company is kind of off my shit list.
Added bonus: I was almost done making dinner when the salespeople came back the second time to talk with both me and Fearghus(I knew I was interested in signing up but I wanted F to get a chance to question them before I committed). When we greeted them they commented that whatever I was cooking smelled fantastic. During the discussion Fearghus offered them a bowl of our chili. Since I’d made a quad batch of chili (so I’d have plenty to freeze for lunches) I didn’t see a problem with it. I served them in my new little bowls from BB&B and they both agreed that the chili tasted as good as it smelled (I think they were being generous.. it needed more salt and pepper, which I added before F&I ate it for dinner). Anyway, the salespeople gave us a bonus “kicker” of a $50 gift card for feeding them. So I’m planning to post my chili recipe and title it my “$50 Kicker Chili”. LOL
3. Health
This morning I ran C25k Week 3 for the 8th time. I ran all the intervals.. but the last minute of the last run was still tough. Based on this I’ll be doing week 3 again next week. That said.. I did it. I ran the whole way and the first two runs almost felt easy. Hooray for progress.
I stopped off and Bed Bath and Beyond and picked up four little bowls that match my new plates. I LOVE them. In fact I’m going to go back and pick up some more of them. This also means I’ll be cycling some of my other bowls into the “give to Ducal” box.
This weekend finds me AGAIN out of yogurt.. and AGAIN resolved to make yogurt over the weekend. We’ll see how that works out.
4. Projects
My brother’s getting married in May and I’m in the wedding party. My instructions are to make “a blue dress I’ll wear again in the future” and that “SCA clothes are fine”. With that in mind I determined to make a version of the dress pictured here:

As I’m rapidly changing sizes I need to wait to fit the bodice until closer to the wedding (I’m thinking end of April) but as I was reminded by Ms. Etaine, I can make the sleeves, hat, skirt, etc beforehand and only worry about the bodice at the last minute.
Wool for this project was acquired at the LA fabric district last October.
To-do list:
Flat hat with feathers
Sleeves
Pleated skirt
GoldHaube
Hemd
Project #2 is to do my first embroidery. I’ve decided that I’m going to embroider wrist-cuffs on a linen tunic for Fearghus. I’m going to try to make the tunic this weekend. The embroidery is going to follow the pattern of the embroidery from the Oseberg ship.
I don’t know what the embroidery was originally on. In fact I suspect it’s probably seat cushions or something else equally inappropriate. Regardless I’ve decided to use the pattern and embroidery wrist cuffs. I did also find a nice picture of this from the museum. Very interesting.

A long while ago (2002-ish) I had a claddagh. I stopped wearing it.. for some reason, I don’t remember why and I misplaced it. I’ve been looking for it for the last few months and finally decided it is long gone and never coming back. So I decided to get a new ring.
I -want- a claddagh to wear on my ring finger. BUT with losing weight my ring finger has been changing size. So being forward looking.. I decided to buy the ring for my pinkie finger and then (eventually) shrink into it. So I pulled out my ring sizing kit (doesn’t everyone have one?) and figured out that my pinkie can fit in a size 7. I found the cutest sterling silver claddagh on ebay with a lab-grown sapphire in it for ~$25 and ordered it in a size 7.
The ring arrived.. and I opened the box.. and I pulled out the ring.. and it looks impossibly small. No way that ring is going to fit on MY finger. My fingers are fat.. even my pinkie.. no way a ring that small would -ever- fit me. Imagine my surprise and delight when the ring actually fits. I’m please.. it’s pretty.. and I can’t wait to shrink enough to move it onto my ring finger. That may take a while. I can wait.
