1. Work/Programming
“Let me ‘splain.. no .. is too long.. let me summarize”.. this week I took things that had gotten out of sync and made them be back in sync again. It’s boring to explain.. but honestly this is the kind of thing I like to do.. well ok.. no.. not really like.. but if it isn’t done it will drive me nuts.. so I could have just ignored it .. and left the files out of sync.. but that would have driven me absolutely mad.. so even though it wasn’t the most scintillating task.. it was a task that pleases my inner OCD. So yes.. I spend ~3 days comparing and then fixing 4 different 2000+ line files. Whatever.. at least I wasn’t filing.
Anyway. I’m very much a “Cross-your-t and Dot-your-i” type person.. and I’m surprised to find out that the gal who was working with me in my group really isn’t. I think she’s a “brilliant flash of amazing inspiration” type who would rather leave the boring details to others. If she comes back to work in my group I’ll have to keep that in mind and pay closer attention (and hassle her about ) the Ts and Is.
Pet project is in a fast iteration cycle. The new version went live in Thursday (just before the end-of-month code freeze) and the new version is currently in testing. Busy is good.
2. Home
The pile of Pennsic stuff got onto the Pennsic truck and headed out of town on Tuesday morning. F called me this morning to say he was on site and all checked in but they’re not allowed to start setting anything up until tomorrow afternoon. They made good time and arrived safely. Sadly Cathy has announced that she won’t be running the truck next year. I can’t blame her. All of her stuff is already out in Pennsylvania and she might actually have a loss on the truck this year since it was terribly hard to scare up people to take units on it.
I was thinking about it and if the truck goes again it should totally advertise in Artemisia to see if anyone there wants to buy units. Since the truck stays on 80 and goes right through Salt Lake City it seems like it’d be really easy to get 3-4 more units there without having to go out of their way. Unfortunately I didn’t think of this until after the truck was already on the road.
I’ve started accumulating all of the things I need to take with me on the plane. My flight leaves on Wednesday night (midnight) and I’ll arrive in Pennsylvania at about noon on Thursday. I can hardly wait.
3. Health
Strange cravings lately. Lots of carbs. Not good for maintenance. In fact, not good overall. I had pasta for dinner the other night.. and afterwards I just felt icky and bloated. I think I just need to buy and eat a whole bunch of veggies to remind myself of how good they are.
I’m hoping to make veggies a focus at Pennsic.. but we’ll see how that works out.
4. SCA/Projects
Pennsic projects are going well.
I’ve finished putting together my kits for my Pennsic class.
I also finished a second pair of Rus pants for Fearghus.
The plan for the weekend is to sew together 4 pairs of braies and 3 chemise. I think it’s doable.
Then I want to make at least one more short-sleeved tunic for Fearghus. If I can get all of this done then I will be able to get started on my blue cotehardie. I think either decorating the tunic or finishing the cotehardie would be lovely hand-sewing projects for the flight out to Pennsic.
Things I want to do but can’t (yet):
Their Highnesses of Cynagua have announced on Their court list that it is Thier whim that the theme for Cynaguan Fall Coronet evening court be “Medieval Superheroes”. Ie, re-interpriting the costume of a superhero to be medieval appropriate. I have SUCH a GREAT idea. I’m giddy from wanting to work on it. BUT Cynaguan fall coronet is MONTHS away. So I guess I’ll wait on that.. for a while at least.
Last night I finally re-read the section from my new Kentish book that talked about the tablet weaving that was used on kentish Dress Style IV. It looks like I’ll be learning 3/1 twill in the near future. BUT that’s a long term project.. so although I’m excited about it.. it’s not actually near the top of my todo list.. that.. and the description of the patterns found on the 3/1 twill is underwhelming. I think I want to look through a few more Kentish find books before I commit a loom to a project.
I’m actually super giddy and excited about another weaving project that has been on my todo list for.. probably 4 years. I’m finally sucking it up and going to “just do it” and going to weave a pair of wickelbander for Fearghus. The plan is to order the wool right after Pennsic.. and to get started on it.
I put together a wool coat for His Highness Brocc. With Thier Highness’ gratious permission I submitted this to the display at June Crown and had the good luck to win the Wreath of Athena. I’ve been thinking about that coat for a while.. and I would like to do something very similar to this for Fearghus. I think that if it was nice.. and made of very nice light weight wool that Fearghus would be more likely to wear it. Currently his only coat is HUGE and heavy and he only wears it when it’s FREEZING.. and not when it’s merely cold. Hopefully a lighter, nicer coat would encourage him to wear it. To that end, one of the things I’m looking for at Pennsic is some Over The Top light weight wool to use for the coat. Cross your fingers for me. If I don’t find it there I will check with Discount Fabrics when we get back.. as a last resort I know that Joann’s has some diamond wool atm.. but I don’t love it.. so I’m holding off. Anyway.. I can’t start on this until I have the fabric.. and have a pattern.. but anyway, post-Pennsic this is at the top of my list of things to do.

At Cynaguan Investiture Her Royal Highness of the West asked me if I would be one of her Queen’s Artisans when she steps up at Purgatorio (at the end of August). She wants her Artisans to do a “best works” display during the fighting in the Royal pavilion at October Crown.
I’m thrilled and scared at the same time. Thrilled because this is a fantastic opportunity to have my work seen by the Kingdom.. but scared.. because.. well.. for the most part my “best works” tend to be what Fearghus and I are currently wearing.
Ok, ok, what do I want to show off? I want to have clothing, weaving and food. I’m most proud of those things. I’ll need to consider it for a while.
