1. Work/Programming
Dinner last week with the boss went well. A group of us went to Credo in downtown SF. It’s a nice small Italian place with an interesting vibe. It’s very loud.. and the walls are covered with interesting quotes from famous people that start with “I believe…”. Their water glasses are made from recycled wine bottles.. and a portion of their profits are donated to a charity. I had a pasta and sausage dish covered in pizza dough that turned out to be MUCH larger than anticipated. I would like to go there again. It was hard to choose which dish to try since so many sounded good.
It turns out that “the big project” is going to use PHP and Symphony. I’ve worked in PHP.. and looking at Symphony.. it just looks like I’ve have to spend time with it to get familiar with it. As I’ve said before, I suspect that “the big project” is in my future. At the moment I’m still working on my pet project. Lots of white papers, designs and scoping out features. Hopefully I’ll know soon what I’m doing on it soon.
My Boss also let me know that he’s open to me officially working from home one day a week.. and he’s following up with his boss to see if this could be extended to officially at home two days a week. That would save me a ton of commute time.
2. Home
As of the end of today I no longer have anything to do with my old house. We’re all packed up and moved and the house is cleaned and emptied.
All things considered a short sale is really the best outcome from that house. I’m glad to be free of it and I’m really looking forward to whatever comes next.
The new house runneth over. I have way too much stuff. So now I embark on the “cull the stuff” part of this move. Right now our stuff is in a HUGE stack of boxes out in the garage.. and a second stack of boxes in our storage unit in San Pablo. The goal for this weekend is to whittle away at the stuff in the garage. If I can get that down to a managable level then maybe later this month we’ll look at getting a storage unit in Santa Rosa and empty out the unit in San Pablo.
Categories of stuff:
**Things I can’t live without** – this is either already in the house.. or should be and needs to find a proper home.
**Things that I want long term**.. but don’t need right now – This is things like my good china.. boxes of books, crafting supplies where I plan to do that craft again and just generally things I’d like to have for when we have our own home again.
**Crap**. – Honestly I have a lot of crap.. this is stuff that I just have.. and it’s probably in storage because I don’t really need it.. but I just need to get rid of it. Do I really need four looms.. especially when I’m not using ANY of them?
The next time I move I want it to be a lot less painful.
So far the commute is manageable if a bit long. I’ve started getting up MUCH earlier in order to catch the proper public transit to make it into town in time for work. My alarm goes off at 5:30am.. I shower, have breakfast and do a little bit of futzing before I catch my bus at 7:00. It takes ~2 hours for the bus to get to my office. The drop off point is 1/2 a block from my office. The commute home is the same only in reverse. The bus leaves at 5:12 and I’m home by 7-ish. That said, commuting is now costing me 4x as much as it was before the move. So I’ve gone from ~$70/month to ~$260. Sadly I’m only allowed to get $125 pre-tax dollars to cover my commute and have to cover the rest with post-tax dollars. Congress sucks.
3. Health
I’m losing the battle of the bulge. I need to get my kitchen setup so I can go back to cooking meals and packing lunches. ATM I’m very annoyed at my weight. Treadmill is in pieces in the garage.
I don’t know if I’m on target to start HCG this weekend. I don’t think so.. I still don’t have my kitchen sorted out and I need that to do it right. *sigh*
4. SCA/Projects
I have found my sewing boxes and sewing machine. Now I just need to figure out where I’m going to be sewing.. and get done with all of the unpacking things I need to do so I have time to get back to it.
I think the first thing I want to do is to finish my waisted cotehardie. Even though it’s not a critical necessity to get it done I’m really kind of excited to do it. Next on my list todo is to figure out the details for the tablet weaving on my Kentish jacket(wool/silk/linen? how many cards? patterned or plain? Etc) and to fiddle with the pattern to make it less tent-like.
Then I just need free time to do it all and I’ll be all set.
Ahh except.. I need to finish a St. Birgitta coif for Esmeralda. She asked for one of those in exchange for the photos she’s going to take for our “save the date” photo shoot at Beltane. I’ll make that my sewing project for next week. I should be able to finish it up by Friday.
5.
With the gracious permission of Their Highnesses of Cynagua we will be having Lure Coursing at Cynaguan Coronet. I -think- all the equipment ended up in the trailer.. I’ll definitely need to find that before Coronet.
My plan is to do it early in the day on Saturday which should be the relaxing no-fighting day. That’s only -my- plan though. I’m not sure what the official plan looks like.
Future:
May 4-6 Beltane (and picture day)
May 25-27 Cynaguan Coronet
June 2 Golden Rivers Rapier Championship and Collegium
June 15-17 A&S Tournament
June 22-24 June Crown
July 14 Cynaguan Summer Investiture
July 27-August 12 Pennsic
August 31, 2013 My wedding in Billings Montana
