1. Work/Programming
I’ve finally started the process to get my name updated at work. Before Erik’s birth the HR department told me that if I changed my name in the system before end-of-year there was a chance I could get dropped from the system completely just about the time I went into the hospital to give birth (you know, like you do). So they advised that I wait until the new year to do the name update. That sounds seriously lame to me. Honestly dropping someone from the system because they updated their name sound like some programmer should be shot for shoddy programming. BUT since I can’t fix how HR works I just have to work with it.
All things considered, getting updated at work looks like it will be fairly easy. You know, aside from where HR freaks out and drops me from coverage for no apparent reason. It does look like there’s about 4 different places I’ll need to poke to get the update in place.. but after that it should be all set.
On a non-work note I’m annoyed to find that monica.stroud@gmail.com is already taken. Seriously? Since my gmail account is currently under my maiden name (Monica.Kroger@gmail.com) and my first choice (Nibuca) was already taken I’ll need to come up with something else that I can remember, that’s somewhat professional and that I can tell to people and expect them to not get it wrong. Annoying.
I have already update my Social Security, Driver’s License and my main bank account. After work is updated I’ll have to go through all of the rest of my bills and accounts.
I did have a bit of a hiccough with that though. During maternity leave the state pays part of my salary. Instead of using direct deposit into my bank account they instead move it into a Visa card. For the first few weeks of maternity leave I would go down to the bank and have Wells Fargo pull the money off the Visa card and onto a check which I would then deposit into my normal account (the one that has all the bills hitting it). About 3/4 through maternity leave I got my drivers license and my main bank account updated to use my married name instead of my maiden name. Unfortunately the Visa card used by EDD is under my maiden name. When I went in to move the money Wells Fargo refused to do it because I no longer have a valid ID with the name Monica Kroger on it.
Let’s ignore the fact that the teller had handled the exact same transaction for me the week before AND REMEMBERED ME.. and ignore the fact that the account showed the name change from my maiden name to my married name.. and ignore the fact that I had IN MY HANDS both the old driver’s licence under my maiden name (with a hole punched in it making it invalid) and my new driver’s licence under my married name… and ignore the fact that I had my MARRIAGE LICENSE showing BOTH my married name AND my maiden name.
Oh, but if I wanted, since I knew the PIN for the Visa card I was welcome to go outside, withdraw the daily limit at the ATM and then bring the cash inside to them and deposit some of it that way.
Nopers. Wells Fargo is determined to keep me safe and will not issued the funds leaving me to scramble to move money around to cover bills.
Bastards. All banks are bastards.
Added bonus EDD won’t answer their phone.. so I can’t figure out how to get the name on the card updated.
2. Home/Erik
Just in the few days I’ve been away from him at work I feel like Erik has changed a lot. Just in the last 3 days or so he’s start shrieking. About half the time it seems to be “hey look what I can do with my voice when I’m really really excited” and the other half the time it seems to be “OMG I’m so sleepy. Wow. I can make this amazingly annoying angry sound and you’ll come running.. but then I don’t want to go to sleep because you’re here and paying attention to me so when you get here I’ll stop shrieking and go back to smiling at you but don’t you dare try to lull me to sleep”. It’s.. trying.
3. Health
I also dug up more weight info all the way back to 2010. I realize it’s not terribly interesting to anyone else.. but I find it fascinating.
4. SCA/Projects
Project list:
1. Bob’s Waffenrock. Pattern is done I’ll start on the mockup tonight.
2. Finish adding eyelets to the front of my brown wool kirtle. I managed to add about 3 more eyelets to this. Slow and steady I guess.
3. Gold Anglo-Saxon hand-sewn tunic. Nothing going on here.
4. Pennsic is coming. Pennsic project list: 2 tunics for Fearghus, 3 kitles for me, coifs and garb for Erik.
