1. Work/Programming
My pet project is officially in QA. Now the waiting begins.
In a meeting yesterday someone wanted to use my pet project in a way that it wasn’t meant to be used. They didn’t really like the answer of “it wasn’t scoped to be used like that.. and won’t work like that without an update”. They can not like it all they want.. it technically just won’t work that way.. and no amount of huffing will make it work that way. The use case they have is completely and totally new.. and it wasn’t designed to be used that way. We can make it do that.. but it will require work first. /grumble
Add to that.. we’re not 100% certain we actually -want- to use it that way.. so TPTB are waffling about whether we should bother to do the update at all. Meh.
2. Home
Yeah! Fearghus and Bob finally moved everything out of the old storage unit and into the new bigger unit. This is a huge thing. First, we can now stop paying the exhorbitant amount we were paying for the old unit and only pay the now-cheaper amount for the new unit. Second, all our stuff is now accessible with less than a 2 hour car ride. Much happiness was had on this development.
Added bonus, it looks like we’ll have a few free weekends in September where we could move.. Now we just need to get done with Pennsic so we can buckle down and start finding somewhere to move to.. and magically come up with the money to pay for the deposit/rent etc (this grown up stuff is hard).
3. Health
Today is my last day on the Very Low Calorie Diet portion of the CrazyStupidDiet. All said I lost 19.5 lbs in total. I’m not certain if/when I’ll try another round.. but it may come up in the future.
I am -really- looking forward to eating breakfast tomorrow.
The plan for the next few weeks is to do “no starch, no sugar” to stabalize this loss.
4. SCA/Projects
Tuesday we leave for West An-tir War. I’m pretty much completely and totally unprepared for this 😀 My plan is to do preparations on Saturday/Sunday. Wish me luck.
Last night I finally finished the last of the hem on my new Crimson Kirtle. Tonight I’ll see if I can snork it up a bit at the side seams.
When I finally got the eyelets done and was able to try on the dress… I found out that even with removing 0.5″ from either side of the front opening.. the dress is way too loose. The plan is to snork it in at the side seams. It feels just silly to have to adjust a dress before I’ve ever worn it.. but then again.. it feels silly to wear a dress that’s just too big. Also of note: the next time I’m making a dress that will have eyelets I will first sew the entire bodice together including the front seam and pull it over my head to test the fit BEFORE completing all B-zillion of the eyelets.
This week I also finished a short-sleeved light weight tunic for Fearghus. I just need to hem it and it’ll be done.
Lastly I started scoping out a weaving project. I want to weave Fearghus a pair of Wickelbander (viking leg wraps). I just need to look at my warping board (which is in the now-closer storage unit) to confirm how much yarn I need and I’ll be all set to go.
5.
Last weekend, at June Crown, we were finally able to hook up with Esmeralda and get photos taken. I can hardly wait to see them. As soon as I have them I’ll be turning them around to make the “Save the Date” cards for the wedding. As Fearghus said: this shit just got real.
