I’m going to be busy busy busy on Friday so I figured I’ll do an early count down this week.
1. Work/Programming
Things they are a-changing. I think I’m on the verge of getting a new boss. For the last year or so I’ve had one person listed as my on-paper boss and yet have been getting my marching orders and project priorities from another person. I think we’re finally going to address this disconnect. The only question is who that new person will be.. and when the actual change will take place. I’m not “worried”.. but change always brings a bit of trepidation. While typing this up I got contacted and my new boss is set. My on-paper boss is going to be the person who has been giving me my marching orders for the last year or so. I like this change.
2. Home
No movement on this. Paperwork was submitted on Friday. It’s now Wednesday and I haven’t heard anything from anyone. I guess it’s to be expected. BofA took about a week to get back to us on the first offer.. so I guess by Friday I may hear back from them. Ah well. I pinged the realtor just to make sure. I’m no good at waiting. I pinged the realtor this morning and he says BofA responded just today by offering Citimortgage $4k to release the lien. This has been sent to Citimortgage. The next step is we wait for Citi to agree to the amount and issue a short sale approval.. and then we wait for BofA to issue the short sale approval. So back to waiting.
This week we have friends staying with us from out of town. I think that in the 6 years we’ve been in the house this is the most people we’ve had stay with us at the same time. House is clean-ish.. I mean as clean as my house ever gets.
Last night I started to worry about the cat. Day-before-yesterday it started raining.. and I hadn’t seen him since then. Usually he’s waiting on the front lawn for me when I get home.. but day-before-yesterday.. nothing.. yesterday.. nothing. So at about 9pm I was sticking my head out the back and then front door calling for the kitty. Our house guest said “Maybe he’s hiding from the rain”.. but obviously he doesn’t know our cat. Loki will go come in soaking wet from the rain.. he doesn’t seem to have any problem with it.. so the fact that I hadn’t seen him AT ALL was just weird. Finally F remembered that he’d had the garage door open a few days ago and went out to check in there. Sure enough Mr Kitty had gotten himself locked up in the garage. He complained at us the whole time he gorged on kibble. Then he spend the rest of the night lying down near me and begging for scritches.
3. Health
Currently we have people in town.. so we’re doing (and planning to do) a lot of eating out. After everyone leaves F has been talking about doing a bout of Atkins. I don’t love the idea (and I certainly don’t want to do it long term) but I will support him. At the moment, despite all the eating out, I’ve managed to drop 2 lbs. Go me 🙂
Speaking of which.. Outback now has a tasty Salmon dinner that clocks in at ~480 calories. I see that as an epic win on their menu.
4. SCA/Projects
Currently I’m obsessed with my 6th century Kentish outfit. I have the two main “Anglo-Saxon” books (“Dress in Anglo-Saxon England” and “Cloth and Clothing in Early Anglo-Saxon England, AD 450-700”) and they both have tantalizing specific information about the 6th century Kentish outfits(the brooches, the button loops, the over jacket.. ).. but then both of the books are vague where I need them to be specific.
I suspect I’m going to have to get organized about this and do a real dig into the information.
Open questions:
– Where is Kent? (I know I should know this but I’m truly clueless about English countryside) Where do burials need to be located to be considered part of Kent? How will they be labeled?
– Where/what articles do I need to find to have specific information about the graves and grave finds?
– Do we have any hint as to the actual cut/pattern used for Dress Style III or the jacket? (Sadly, I think no.. most of the finds are indicating a linen dress and jacket which just doesn’t survive well).
– The books say that tablet weaving has been found bonded to the back of the square headed brooches. What patterns have been used on these tablet weavings? Is it plain? Is it brocaded? What material, wool, linen, other?
– The books mention the button loops and have a lovely picture about what they are and how to recreate them… how big are they? The pictures have no scale. Were these attached to the edge of the fabric.. was it a turned hemmed fabric or is it an edge made by binding the edge of the fabric? Does that edge, the front center opening of the Dress style III have tablet weaving along the edge? What pattern? What material?
– Do some/all of the kentish dress style III have the wrist clasps? Are the clasps limited to Kentish finds or do they occur on other Anglo-saxon finds?
– Do all of the wrist clasps have tablet weaving cuffs? What pattern? What material?
– A lot of Kentish finds have brocaded tablet weaving. This is because the metal of the brocading helps to preserve the find. What is the placement of these finds in the graves? Does this correspond with the front edge of the jacket or a top/bottom edge of something else?
– Kentish finds rarely contain earrings.. implying that a veil is hiding the ears. Is there a filet? One find had beads arranged in an interesting pattern that I think might nicely correspond to the placement you’d see if the beads were attached to the edge of a large veil.
– Are there any relevant illuminations or textual sources?
So yeah.. I’m a little obsessed.
Hmm.. before March Crown I need to finish the sewing on F’s banner and green tunic. I think I may need to put my obsession on hold for a bit.
