\"Help<\/a>1. Work\/Programming<\/strong>
\nThis week I’ve gained an added appreciation of my PMs. I’m now in a new group.. with a new “things-to-do” list. These last two weeks my main thing to do was to figure out how a new tagging system worked, test it out and then get one of our sites to make updates so they would be loading this tag on their pages. This meant that I had to act as PM for this project. I understand the tasks.. but honestly I’m not good at the “harass the engineer until they do what you want them to do” part of that job. I just expect people to do what they’ve said their going to do when they said they would do it. I know.. a naive optimist. The project which was supposed to launch by noon on Wednesday didn’t actually go live until noon today (for the record, I HATE Friday launches).. and even then it was only after I’d sent A LOT of “Hey, how’s it going, I couldn’t help but notice that this thing didn’t launch at the agreed upon time” type emails. It was exhausting.<\/p>\n

On the plus side, yeah the project has launched before I delivered my baby. On the double-plus side I got kudos from my boss (sent out to a bigger group) congratulating me on getting the project up and running in only a week and a half.<\/p>\n

On the minus side I think one part of the project is going to have to be changed in December.. and I will be out on Maternity Leave.. so I don’t know that it will get changed. It’s not a big minus.. assuming the site-side doesn’t break the tag it should be ok to just ride along until I get back in February.. but I hate the idea of it silently breaking and no one fixing it. Meh.<\/p>\n

2. Home<\/strong>
\nLast Saturday we rearranged our bedroom and added the crib\/dresser in there (for the next few months while we’re expecting for the baby room to function as a guest room for out-of-town visitors) and bought up the last of the “have to have when the baby gets here” baby gear. We have put off a few of the “don’t need until 3-6 months+ things” for future purchases. We’re almost done sorting through the baby stuff we’ve been given and have already passed on to another couple the itty bitty newborn stuff that was designated as 5-8 lbs.<\/p>\n

My house is “clean enough” for guests to come visit without stressing me out.. but I do need to tuck away a few boxes to make the house feel less cluttered.<\/p>\n

Last weekend Fearghus contact our property management company. When we moved in they told us that the stove in the front room was gas.. and that we should have no trouble using it. We didn’t really worry about it last year (though we did spend about one hour trying to figure out how to light the stove before giving up) but last week we were discussing it and we both agreed that a nice cozy fire was exactly in line with our vision for family bliss in raising our son. So anyway, Bob and Fearghus spent an afternoon last week poking at the stove.. and eventually came to the non-expert conclusion that the property management company was smoking crack and even though the stove has some fake logs in it (like you see in gas stoves).. it was a wood burning stove. So Fearghus called the PM company.. and they insisted it was a gas stove.. but if we were really really sure (or really really dumb and couldn’t figure out how to light it) they would send someone out to us.. BUT if it turned out to be a gas stove.. then the PM co was going to charge us $150 for the visit. We hesitated at that point.. for like 2 seconds. First off we were 90% certain it was not a gas stove.. and if it -was- a gas stove then clearly we needed help in figuring out how to light the bugger. So we agreed that we’d pay the cost IF WE WERE WRONG. A few days later the PM co contacted a local chimney sweeping company and the chimney sweep contacted Fearghus to setup an appointment. The earliest they could come out was 11\/18 but they agreed that Fearghus could send them pictures of the stove and they’d look at them to see if maybe they could diagnose the stove over the phone.<\/p>\n

Fearghus sent them pictures.. and the chimney sweep agreed with us. It’s a wood burning stove (and the Property Management company is smoking crack). So now the PM co has agreed to pay for a grate and to have the chimney sweep do a basic cleaning on the stove. AND then FINALLY we’ll be good to go.<\/p>\n

To be honest even without having the grate\/cleaned fireplace.. we had a fire in it yesterday.. and it was kind of awesome. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

3. Health<\/strong>
\nWeight is up since two weeks ago. This morning was 342.2. That up 5.8 lbs in three weeks. Part of that I think goes to the baby.. but part of it at least is my own fault. Halloween candy called my name.. and I answered. That and last night we had a big dinner (OMG burgers) and then later we shared some pie with Bob. The pie was more sugar than I’ve had in a LONG time.<\/p>\n

Last night was NO FUN AT ALL. My body has informed me that these types of shenanigans (too big dinner followed by WAY too big piece of pie for dessert plus a big glass of milk) will no longer be tolerated! <\/p>\n

After two months of strictly following the Doctor’s non-diet eating plan (which has drastically shrunk my serving sizes and doesn’t allow for ANY dessert\/milk in the evening) my body showed me who’s boss when I strayed from the path. I felt icky when I went to bed.. and woke up with acid-y stomach(and other upsets) at about 5am.. and could NOT get back to sleep. <\/p>\n

Message heard loud and clear. I am totally back on the straight and narrow.<\/p>\n

Aside from this morning (which was still effected by pie) the 10 minute walk after dinner has definitely brought my morning fasting blood sugars back in line where they’re supposed to be.<\/p>\n

Last Friday’s ultrasound showed that Erik was about 8lbs 4oz (+\/- 1lb 3oz). Babies at this age are expected to gain about a pound a week putting his birthweight at due date at around 9.9 lbs. This is troubling because the bigger he gets the harder the birth. In today’s meeting with the Doctor he said that if we don’t pop into labor by Mon\/Tue of next week that he’d schedule us for another ultrasound on the 16th so that we can get a second estimate on Erik’s expected size on the 18th (the day we’re supposed to induce). If Erik gets too big.. then it may be better to go for a cesarean rather than vaginal birth. I’d really prefer not to do that.. so I’m hoping to pop into natural labor right soon. <\/p>\n

4. SCA\/Projects<\/strong>
\nMy heels have been dragging on Miach’s rus pants. I totally need to kick my own ass and just finish those this weekend. Other than that.. not much is currently happening on the SCA project front.<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong>
\nI stopped playing WoW in March this year. I miss it in that it was nice mindless time-filler with pretty pictures. I don’t miss it in that I don’t feel obligated to log on.. or write up blog entries.. or figure out gear lists.. or figure out what reputation I need to work on next.. or feel bad that I’m taking time to cook dinner instead of rushing off to a raid. Today was the first day of Blizzcon. I watched the free stream of the opening ceremonies. They announced a new expansion. I’m interested.. but I don’t know if I’m interested enough to go back. We’ll see how I feel as the release gets closer.<\/p>\n

That said.. I had a thought.. a few of my friends still play and are super psyched about the expansion. They posted on Facebook about the info they were seeing and added a bit of squeeing I thought it was great to see them so excited. A few other in-common friends felt the need to poo poo and posted almost hateful comments about how glad they were to be free of the game.. and what a waste of time it was. I don’t entirely disagree with them.. but I think their comments were in poor taste. Friend 1 (who is clearly still into it) was squeeing and gleeful about the announced features.. and Friend 2 & 3 felt the need to vent their negativity. I can only assume that somehow friend 2 and 3 thought that their poo pooing comments would somehow cause Friend 1 to re-think her ways.. and give up the habit they they had clearly demonized. <\/p>\n

So.. I guess the lesson I take from this.. is that just because you feel negatively about something does NOT mean that you need to share your negativity with someone who clearly still feels positively about that thing. In that case it’s better to be silent and say nothing than to shit on their parade and look like an ass.<\/p>\n
