I got a call this morning from the Blood Center. The guy asked if everything was all right since they hadn’t heard from me in a while. I told him that at some point last year they stopped calling me.. so I stopped coming in :D. He apologized and asked if I could come in to give blood. Today is pretty empty so I setup an appointment.<\/p>\n
He then reminded me to drink lots of fluids so I wouldn’t be dehydrated..and then noted that most everyone is a bit dehydrated. I told him that wouldn’t be a problem since I know that I drink my water.<\/p>\n
“Oh,” he remarked “so you’re a triathlete?”<\/p>\n
This stuck me as very funny. No, I’m not a triathlete.. and honestly is there some kind of bias that says that only triathletes can drink all their water?<\/p>\n
Eventually we worked it out and he then observed that I was welcome to stop in at 2 (for my 2:15 appointment) and that would give me plenty of time to drive down and find parking. I decided against correcting him that I would be walking to the appointment.<\/p>\n
I’m still kind of bemused that I’m somehow supposed to be this triathlete who drives to a blood giving appointment.<\/p>\n
I actually decided to stop by their offices right after I picked up my stuff from the farmer’s market. It’s only two blocks away from the market. This did put me in there about an hour early but they were able to accommodate it. I filled out all my paperwork and did my interview and was on the couch giving blood by 1:10. I was done at 1:26 (I bleed fast). THEN they had me spend 15 minutes in their cantina. It seems silly that the sitting around part was almost longer than the giving blood part.<\/p>\n
