I should have spent the weekend working on my blue dress. Instead I frittered it all away. I was still productive.. but not at that thing which is most needed to be done.<\/p>\n
Saturday I rolled the top edge of the skirt (1\/2″ hem) and attached the cheater strip. Then I decided to go out to the garage to see if I could find the velvet ribbon for the sleeves. {Cue ominous music}<\/p>\n
(Adding a cut.. because honestly it’s a bit long.. and kind of boring.. but I want to write it anyway but don’t want to inflict it on ppl who don’t care \ud83d\ude00 )

Our garage is in a sad state. The previous owners of the house put up drywall in the garage so it appeared to be “finished” but they didn’t patch the leaky roof. So every year when it rains it leaks a little bit more and a little bit more of the ceiling’s drywall falls down. Add to that it’s full of crap. Some of it’s necessary crap (lawn mower, bike, saw etc) but mostly it’s just crap crap (mouldering materials left over from past projects or just.. crap). <\/p>\n
In searching for my velvet ribbon I pulled down a box labeled “yarn and crochet thread” and found that a mouse had gnawed a hole in the box and made a home amongst the string. Happily they didn’t dirty\/destory much.. but I really hate mice. I decided that the only cure.. the thing I needed to do right that minute… was to move the stuff stored in the garage from cardboard boxes into sealable plastic tubs. <\/p>\n
I’ve been slowly migrating EVERYTHING in my house into plastic tubs. So now I’ll be migrating EVERYTHING in my garage into plastic tubs. The tubs I really like have been sold by Costco. I keep going back and buying more. They’re all the same size, stack beautifully and have latching handles. So in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday.. when I -should- have been working on my blue dress.. I instead hopped into the car and jetted down to Costco. Sadly Costco only had one set of my normal tubs (which I bought).. I really hope they get more of those in. Costco ALSO had some new front-loading tubs. Now it’s not EXACTLY what I wanted to do.. but….<\/p>\n
I’ve been storing my fabric stash in the Costco normal top-loading tubs. Which means, when I’m doing a project I need to pull all of the tubs out in order to see what’s in each tub.. and especially if it turns out that the fabric I wanted was on a bottom tub. So I reasoned.. if I moved my fabric stash over from the top-loading normal tubs to these new front-loading tubs then I would more easily be able to access my fabric stash (win) AND I would have a boat load of top-loading tubs available for storing the stuff in the garage (double win).<\/p>\n
So I spent about $80 and bought new tubs for my fabric stash. Well for the stuff that was -already- in tubs. When I went to put the new front-loading tubs into the fabric-stash closet I realized that the new tubs are wider than the old tubs.. this meant that I had to pull out the rolls of fabric I had stashed next to the old tubs. Since I had it out.. and lying on the floor.. I figured it was only a short little step to unroll it all, take pictures and measurements and list it all for sale. So that’s what I did. Please check out the Fabric Sale<\/a> and buy buy buy. No reasonable offers refused. <\/p>\n So most of Saturday afternoon was spend re-arranging my fabric stash.<\/p>\n On Sunday F and I decided to tackle the garage. We viciously culled the crap and finally got rid of a bunch of the mouldering drywall. We have a truckload of trash to go to the dump. BUT (happy shiny points) I found exactly the velvet ribbon I was thinking of using for the sleeves of my blue dress AND my string and ribbons are now stored in clear plastic storage tubs. I still have several boxes of china to re-pack and “childhood toys” and “pictures from growing up”. Regardless it was HUGE progress on the state of the garage. At this point F could actually do projects -in- the garage.. instead of having to pull everything out of the garage before staring a project.<\/p>\n Sadly, as mentioned, I made no progress on the dress.
