Work/Programming
Productive week (even though I was sick@home Wednesday). I finished my design document and got it all set for signoff from the stakeholders. I was supposed to start work on it this week but instead I had to circle back to the project from last week. That project was done.. but a few things came up in the code review that needed to be fixed. I’m mostly done with that now. Just a few more things which I think will be done tonight or Monday.

But for sure on Monday I’m going to get back to setting up my environment to work on the project described in the mockups/design I just finished. Which reminds me.. I need to come up with milestones for the project manager on that. /takes a note

2. Home
BofA sent me ANOTHER request for more information. This is the same information I sent them last month. I sure hope that something comes of this. Six months and counting.

As I mentioned on Monday, last weekend we ended up tackling the garage. I cannot describe how great it is to know that the garage is organized. I just need to get in there and finish transfering 5-6 things from cardboard boxes into plastic tubs and then I’ll call it finished. I also re-located any Ducal stuff to the shed in the back yard. I’m slowly moving all the Ducal stuff out of the house and into the shed. It really has freed up a lot of space.

3. Health
I spent all of this week again trying to figure out what I was doing that was thwarting my efforts. AT this point I’m pinpointing milk, sugar and frappachinos as the culprits. I’ve had a few *ahem* off days.. and indulged in a few episodes of Starbucks coffee.. and I’m finding that the next day my running has suffered. Specifically my breathing is VERY constricted and I feel very phlegm-y. Thinking back on this it looks like milk, sugar.. and more specifically frappachinos are to blame. So.. I’m cutting them out… again.

This moring was the 12th time I’ve run week 4. AT this point I’m making it through all of the intervals except the last one. That last 5 minute run is just kicking my butt. So I’ll stay in week 4 again.

I watched an interesting video about the evil of sugar(“Sugar: The Bitter Truth“). It poses a convincing argument that sugar is the root of all our obesity woes. I appreciate its message.. but I’m bothered by the mentality that we should demonize one part of our diet in order to lose weight.. first we demonized Fat(giving us the low fat craze of the 80s).. then we demonized carbs(giving us Atkins) and now we’re going to demonize sugar. I’m not convinced that 100% of all sugar is bad.. and I’m also not convinced that I can be made healthier by swapping from HFCS to “normal” sugar in order to cutback on the fructose in my diet. I am convinced that the S.A.D. (Standard American Diet) has WAY too much sugar in it.. and cutting back on that overall is a good idea.. and I’m also convinced that when you eliminate foods that are fortified with sugars (ie, processed foods) the foods that fill that space are real foods.. and have much lower sugar.

I’m still puzzled about a few things though.
– The fat craze caused us to all switch from high fat milk/yogurt to low fat milk/yogurt.
– The manufacturers realized that the low fat stuff tasted like poo.. so they “fortified” the low fat offerings with sugar, salt and thickeners and in some cases, hydrogenated oils.
– The now processed food is less healthy for you than just eating the full fat food (which if you look at the ingredients doesn’t have added sugar, salt or thickeners).

So the question remains.. is fat really something we should cut down on? ie, if the manufacturers offered version of the “low fat” item that were just the item with the fat removed.. would that be the better choice? Or has the whole idea of eating low fat been proven to be a rabbit trail and immaterial in the argument about what constitutes a healthy diet?

Same thing, if “eat low fat” has been proven to be an incorrect guidance.. then is there a compelling reason to choose broiled chicken breast over rib-eye?

Assuming reasonable portion sizes.

4. Projects
This week I finished the skirt for my new 1540s Blue&Black German dress. This weekend I’m starting on the Sleeves of DOOOOOM. 😀 I’m tossing back and forth about how I’ll work on them. We’ll see what I come up with. Hopefully some time next week I’ll be able to get fitted for a bodice so I can get the dress completed. Wheee.

I think I’ll also try and squeeze in a tunic and hood this week so I can wear them at Beltane. We’ll see.

5.
I volunteered to teach the hat class at Cynagua Cornet (May 30) and A&S (June 12). I really need to get cracking on that. In fact now that I think of it I have a hat box in the garage the needs to hold hats. Need to get that this weekend.

I need to finish up my class notes and gather my hats and I think I’ll be all set to go. Honestly I feel under-qualified to teach the class. It’s going to be more of a “if you wear this type of garb, here’s quick and easy options for covering you head” with patterns rather than an in-depth dive into the evolution of these headgears (which would be cool.. but I totally don’t have time to work that up before June).

1.
