1. Work/Programming
Last week I presented my feature list for my pet project to “Those who get to decide what features are part of Monica’s pet project”. They’re interested.. but it turns out that none of the “major” features were things they wanted worked on right now. So my list of ~3 major features and 8 minor features got whittled down to 4 minor features. So that’s what I’m working on this week. I will back-burner the design document I’d started on for the major features and hope that they get prioritized in the future.
2. Home
We made major steps on sorting stuff this last weekend. On Friday I rented a storage unit in Santa Rosa. On Sunday we sorted through all of the cardboard boxes in the garages and transported almost all of the “storage” stuff to the new storage unit. New unit is ~10 minutes from the house.. but it’s open for access from 6AM to 10PM which is -highly- convenient. Sometimes this week F will be moving the washer/dryer, entertainment center and two-drawer filing cabinet into the storage.. and hopefully empty out the old storage unit in San Pablo. The new unit is a little bit smaller than old unit.. but we’ve put our names on a waiting list for a bigger unit.
I’m hoping that my sewing stuff (especially fabric) which is currently in storage can get relocated to the garage for easier access. Pennsic is coming and I NEED to start working on that garb SOON!
3. Health
On Sunday, while sorting through the boxes in the garage I -finally- found all of the paraphernalia for CrazyStupidDiet. It had gotten separated and lost during the move. The new plan is to start it on Tuesday of next week. This will put it after Cynaguan Coronet and visit from aunt Flo. Horray for progress.
Regardless.. with having a working kitchen back I’m starting to see traction in the battle of the bulge. I definitely need to cut down on the “meh, I don’t feel like cooking, let’s just order out” urge.
4. SCA/Projects
My new black short-sleeved waisted cotehardie is almost ready. I’m currently working on the hem and then it will be wearable for this weekend. I’m super geeked about how nice it looks. Last night I tried it on with a newly made chemise and I was thrilled by how -right- it looked to me.
Still todo:
– Hem the dress
– Make lower pin-on sleeves in gold
– Finish the wrists, hem and neck openings of the chemise
– Make two-tailed cap
Future todo:
– Open front seam, add binding and eyelets and make it lace closed
– Make more braies
– Make some linen socks
– Make open hood in red wool
On Saturday, at Investiture I finished re-attaching the skirt (for the third time). Frankly I’m sick of re-attaching the skirt.. hopefully this is the last time. The new waist seam is much less bulky than the old one. I’m very pleased with it.
I didn’t make as much progress on the dress on Sunday. While moving stuff into storage I located the chemise I’d planned to wear with the waisted cotehardie. Sadly that chemise is a scootch too small(much sadness was had upon that discovery). Luckily I had just enough medium weight linen in my emergency fabric stash and was able to cut out and put together a new chemise last night. The new chemise fits like a dream and just needs to be finished (wrists, neck, hem) to be all set for this weekend.
One of the benefits of having a VERY long commute.. where I don’t have to drive (on the bus).. is lots and lots of time for hand sewing. The plan for tonight is to start (and maybe finish) the cotehardie’s hem. It’s cut to the right length.. and ironed.. it just need to be finished.
