1. Work/Programming
I’m banging out the milestones on my new project. Actually because of last week being short and my co-working being out with the plague I’m a few days behind schedule but I think I’ll get caught up pretty easily.
It’s been a while since I’ve done Java programming.. and I’m finding it very Zen. I spend a day with it and then go home with a happy feeling of accomplishment. I’m almost embarassed to mention it.. but jUnit (a thingie you use for testing the code your wrote) is a large part of my happy feeling of accomplishment. It’s satisfying to write a bit of complex code.. then write 8-10 test cases that prove that the complex code is doing what it’s supposed to be doing.. Sort of like setting up goals and then knocking them down. I’m humming along with productivity.
2. Home
On Wednesday I broke our kitchen faucet. It had a button that you have to press to change the faucet from spray to stream.. I hit the button.. and the whole faucet head broke off (and spewed water across the kitchen). Technically the faucet was still usable.. but yeah, totally broken. On Friday evening we headed into Home Depot and picked up a cheap replacement faucet.
Despite the fact the Feargus will tell you that he’s not a plumber.. he managed to replace the broken faucet. Now every time I walk past it I just grin. The new faucet is -so- much better than the old faucet.
In other news.. it seems that the hot water heater has stopped leaking (we put a cap on the leaky part). So .. yeah.. the house suck is down a smidge.
Still nothing from BofA(those bastards). That’s six months they’ve had our paperwork and we haven’t gotten a peep out of them. Not a damn word. HATE THEM! Fiery hot hate of hate-y-ness. I am so totally putting them on my shit list of businesses that with NEVER get my money EVER again(along with AT&T). BASTARDS.
3. Health
Last week I did my second week of week 3 of C25K. (wow.. was that sentence awkward to read or what?). Anyway. I did week 3 the first time.. and I thought I would die so I did week 3 again last week. It’s going better.. but still not to the point where I want to jump into week 4.. so I’m doing week 3 again this week.
On the plus side the first run of 90 seconds and the second run of 3 minutes has become doable.. on the minus side, the second run of 90 seconds felt hard.. and the last run of 3 minutes felt very hard (and I ended up hanging on the treadmill bars for the last minute). -IF- the last run feels “easy” by this coming Friday then I’ll move onto week 4. Seriously, I want a 3 minute run to be easy before I move onto a 5 minute run.
I still LOVE the treadmill. It is by far the best thing I’ve bought for myself.. in .. well possibly ever.
4. Projects
On Saturday I finally finished the hat. I kind of wanted to do embroidery on it.. but since I currently don’t do embroidery I decided to do appliqué instead. It turned out well. I’ll post pictures later.
I don’t do embroidery. Which is to say, although I understand the stitches.. and have numerously times attended a “basic embroidery stitches” class at A&S, I have never done a project that included embroidery. I aim to change this. Which I guess means I need to identify a project which I plan to do embroidery on.. and a pattern to embroider. Yeah, because I don’t have enough projects on my plate. I’m thinking something relatively innocuous like embroidering on cuffs/collar of a new tunic. That seems reasonable.
Speaking of over-committing… I keep finding that I want to do a piecework quilt-top. Not just my not-yet-started jean quilt.. but blog entries like this one really make me want to do neato stuff like that.
5. Conquest of the Wastelands
This morning I got an email on the Bronzehelm list (Bronzehelm is the SCA group in Billings Montana) announcing their Conquest of the Wastelands event. I’m kind of tickled that this event is going to be hosted on my parent’s farm near Billings Montana. I’m sad to note that I don’t think we’ll be able to go. We’ll be there the weekend before the event for my Brother’s wedding(which is also on Mom&Dad’s farm).. but have to get home and goto Cynaguan Coronet on the same weekend as the Conquest of the Wastelands. Still.. I’m kind of tickled.
Also, joke for you:
A unionized public employee, a member of the Tea Party and a CEO are
sitting at a table. In the middle of the table there is a plate with a
dozen cookies on it. The CEO reaches across and takes 11 cookies,
looks at the tea partier and says,”look out for that union guy, he
wants a piece of your cookie.”
Have a good week.
