1. Work/Programming
My last project is “done” .. but small things have been popping up on it all week. As of right now I -think- it’s DONE done.. but we’ll see. Regardless, I’ve made good progress on this week’s ACTUAL project and I’d say I’m 85% done with the current design document. It turns out that my next project is to implement the project in this design document. Yeah for implementing projects I design. Very satisfying.
2. Home
When I got home on Thursday F informed me that he hadn’t seen the cat all day.. and he’d searched the back yard.. and the cat was gone (F also showed me a wicked mosquito bite he’d gotten while wading through the jungle which is our back yard). I was stunned. Then I turned around to put my coat in the closet.. and informed F that I’d found the cat.. he was nonchalantly eating out of the food dish.
His Evilness Emperor Loki has become an indoor/outdoor cat. That said.. he’s still kind of amazed at the transformation..and when he comes back into the house he’s very chatty with me.. I like to think that he’s telling me about all the cool things he saw.. but honestly.. he’s just very chatty. Mow.. Mow.. mow mow (and then I saw a bird.. and a flower.. and the wind blew and another bird…). 😀
3. Health
I’m not sure exactly what -it- was.. but something I ate or something I did over last weekend -really- messed me up with my C25K. Last week C25k Week 4 was hard.. but doable. I ran the whole thing and was feeling pretty spiff about it. Then Monday of this week I attempted to run Week 4 again and it was HORRIBLE. For some reason suddenly I just couldn’t do it. Like I said, I’m not sure exactly what caused it but there are a couple of possible culprits:
– On Sunday last week I didn’t use the treadmill at all. One thing led to another and I just ended up not doing it. Was the issue a day of rest?
– Because I didn’t do the treadmill I also didn’t do my abs until very late in the day.. in fact just before bedtime. When I did it I did standing abs.. which also tire out my upper thigh. Was the issue the fact that my legs were tired?
– Also on Sunday I ended up eating CRAP. F and I ended up going to the international market for lunch.. and when surrounded by a lot of choices of food.. I chose a lot of it.. and a lot of it that wasn’t particularly health for me… tasty yes.. healthy.. not so much. Was the issue the crap eating?
Regardless of the cause.. I feel that I ended up wasting a week just to get back to where I was last week. I’m not demoralized.. like I keep saying, any running is progress.. but I was kind of hoping to move on to week 5 sooner rather than later. Ah well.. I’ll keep doing week 4 until it’s at least half easy.
I’m six months into this and I feel stronger. That makes me happy even if the needle on the scale isn’t moving very quickly.
4. Projects
Have you ever been fixated by a sewing project? You know.. the kind where you know you have other things you -have- to do.. but the sewing gremlins DEMAND that you work on -THIS- project which is not the highest priority project in your queue? Yeah, I had one of those this week. The sewing gremlins demanded that I rework my hood pattern to eliminate the gores. I complied and now have a new hood pattern (which I like ALOT). The sewing gremlins then demanded that I sew this up out of black wool.. but they were thwarted by the fact that my stash has only a tiny swatch of black wool in it.. and that swatch is not nearly big enough. So NOW the sewing gremlins have demanded that I go shopping and buy black wool of the proper weight so that I can make a new hood…. you know.. a hood that I don’t really need especially when you consider that my top project is to get to work on my blue wool German dress for my brother’s wedding. /sigh.. Yeah the sewing gremlins are silly.
That said.. I -have- made progress on the blue dress. I washed and dried the wool for it and then figured out how much I needed for the skirt and cut the fabric into pieces for the skirt, sleeves and bodice. I hope to be able to finish the skirt this weekend. I need to find my black velvet ribbons in order to work on the sleeves. I think those are in the garage.. I plan to find those (or go out and buy new ribbons) tomorrow.
Sadly, based on the amount of fabric in my skirt/bodice/sleeve piles I don’t think I’m going to have very much of this yummy blue wool left over. That makes me sad.. In fact I don’t even know if I’m going to have enough wool to make the hat. /pout.
5.
I ordered new boots to replace the ones that were too big that I sold at Coronet. Sadly I think the size 9 is too small. I can get my feet into them.. but they’re tight across the top of the foot. So I’m going to exchange these size 9’s for size 9 1/2s. Oh.. the exciting life I live.
Sæunn has put out a call for teachers for classes at A&S June 11/12 (Link to submit a class). I asked for input on Facebook as to what classes I teach interested folks. Options:
- Intro to Fingerloop braiding “Fingerloop braiding is one form of the technique of loop manipulation, which can be used to make laces of all sizes and complexities.Fingerloop braids found in digs in London have been dated to as early as the 12th century. These examples are purse strings, edgings for hairnets, and loose braids (possibly laces or hat laces).Come and learn how to make a standard round lace, a brode lace, if time permits, a lace baston. Our patterns are taken from a manual of fingerloop braiding dated to 1475.”
- The Viborg Shirt “The Viborg shirt is a linen shirt dated to between 1019 and 1050 found near Viborg Søndersø, Denmark. This class will review the cut of the shirt and the seams used in its construction. There will be hand sewing.”
- Rectangular Tunic Construction “Follow along as we go from rectangles of fabric to an assembled rectanglar tunic with completely finished seams that fold together beautifully. Class includes, discussions of other seam types, fabric choice, and cutting diagrams for several different sizes.”
- Cover Thy Hair, Hussy: Women’s headgear through the ages “Discussion with patterns of several options for ‘covering thy hair’ so as to not appear to be a hussy. Specifically: Jorvik Cap, Brocaded Fillet, Hoods, Veils, Huve, St Birgitta’s Cap, Wulsthaube, Goldhaube ”
The response seemed to favor the headgear class.. which unfortunately is the only one I don’t actually have worked up yet.. Ah well.. I’ve got almost two months to get it done ;D
