Our Story So Far

This is that post. You know the one. The one where the blogger comes back and sheepishly admit that they haven’t blogged for a while and then fervently promises to do better. Yeah.. that one.

Anyway. It’s September, nearly October and my year in weight loss is not going as smoothly as I’d like. I haven’t ballooned up to 400 lbs and started growing a mustache.. but I’m also not making the slow and steady progress towards a fit and trim me as I’d like. *sigh*

Ok. This morning the scale said 281.8. Considering that last week at this time it said 286 (and I had a freak out moment when I realized I was back where I’d started the year) I consider this progress.

Several vacations and a general lack of sticking-to-it wrt food lead to the gain. About two weeks ago I put on my jeans and realized they were tight. I don’t mean embarassingly tight.. but a lot tighter than they should be. So I put on the emergency brakes, had a deep dark heart-to-heart with myself and re-recommitted to “Just doing it” again.

Today my jeans are snug.. but they’re a lot better than they were.

Regardless of my food backsliding I’m still making steady progress on C25K. Since the end of January (when I bought the treadmill) I have run Monday, Wednesday, Friday of every week except for the two weeks when we vacationed in Montana and two weeks when we vacationed at Pennsic. I am still in week 5 but I’m now doing the two eight minute run (day two). This morning, for the second time ever I was actually able to complete one of the 8 minute runs entirely without stopping. I’m pleased with the progress and hope to be able to complete the whole run without stopping soon.

We’ve joined a CSA and now have a box of organic food delivered to our door every week. So far so good.

I’ve learned that I should make them elminate leaf lettuce from our delivery. Each week they deliver a head of lettuce and each week it wilts in the fridge until I throw it out.
I also learned that Black mission figs are yummy. I thought about grilling them.. but ended up just eating them straight out of the basket instead. Very yummy paired with some Dubliner we had in the fridge.
“Red Garnet Potato” is code for sweet potato. I thought they were .. you know just weird potatoes.. so I microwaved some to use in my fritatta recipe.. but when I went to slice them I realized I couldn’t just throw them in (F doesn’t like sweet potatoes). I’ve come up with an alternate plan.

Tonight for dinner I’m going to slice up the sweet potatoes and some white potatoes and some broccoli, coat them in 1/4-1/2 cup mayo with a sprinkle of garlic salt and roast the hell out of them. I think they’re make yummy “fries and roasted veggies”. I think I buy a beef roast on the way home and roast that up as well.

Anyway.. I promise promise promise (fervently) that I’ll do better. 😀
