My So Called Life

Progress

Them: so.. *head tilt* how are you doing?

LOL. Anyway. I’ll save y’all from having to ask.

I’m 2 weeks + 2 days out from Bariatric Sleeve surgery.

So far I’ve lost 14 lbs. I’m normally losing about a pound a day.

I’ve moved on to the “puree’d diet” portion of recovery. Things which can be blended. I can only tolerate so much grits and refried beans. The nurse at my two weeks post-op appointment also said that I can add limited soft foods as I find I can tolerate them. I’ve started having a scrambled egg for breakfast and it is WONDERFUL, but I’m struggling to hit my protein goal of 60g/day. I soldier on.

No NSAIDs is still a PITA. My left hip is absolutely killing me and my lower back is not far behind. The pain is impacting my sleep. My hip and back are keeping me awake. No bueno.

I mentioned to the nurse that I planned to go back on NSAIDs at 4 weeks. She suggested that it would be better to wait until 6-8 weeks but said it should be okay as long as I keep taking the prescribed Omezrapole (stomach antacid). So okay, fine. The goal would be to make it to 6-8 weeks and then lose enough weight to make my orthopedic surgeon happy (40 lbs to lose).

At KASF (Atlantian SCA event last weekend) I made the mistake of having my “normal” Starbucks drink during morning court. I did get it made up with decaf but made the mistake of ordering heavy cream in it (Decaf flat white made with sugar free vanilla and heavy cream). My body did NOT like that. Throughout morning court I had cold sweats and felt generally unwell. It resolved about 20 minutes later but I have a feeling that I may now be no longer able to tolerate heavy cream/milk products. I will have to experiment with Oatmilk and other substitutes.
